History
Originally known as the Blue Mountains Handicapped Children's Centre, Blue Mountains Disability Services Ltd (trading as 'Eloura') have been providing high quality programs to people with a disability in the areas of accommodation support, independent living, employment and training, recreation and social inclusion since 1961.
We are proactive and committed providers of innovative services and programs and have a long history of family, carer and service user involvement in all areas of management, operations, planning and staffing.
Eloura works with service users whose support needs vary from low to very high and who may have complex and multiple disabilities. We provide services in three key areas:
Residential Services
Eloura Residential Services are funded by the NSW Department of Ageing Disability and Home Care (DADHC) to provide local accommodation and residential support services for over 30 people with a disability, mainly in group home settings in the lower Blue Mountains. All residents are empowered and supported to make choices and decisions affecting both their quality of life and their participation community life.
Business Services
Eloura Business Services are funded by the Commonwealth Department of Family, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) to provide employment and training in a supported environment for up to 65 people with a disability.
People with moderate to high support needs are employed in a range of jobs in woodwork, packaging, landscaping and grounds maintenance. A range of innovative products are manufactured by employees of Eloura including hot mix rakes, mining products such as stope sticks and mining blocks, hardwood stakes and pegs, bread boards and 'made to order' products.
Employees are provided with vocational and non-vocational training and support to assist them to achieve their vocational goals. Employees work at either the Eloura Industries workshop or with Eloura Grounds and Maintenance which are both based in Springwood.
Day Programs
Eloura Day Programs are funded by DADHC to provide a range activities and services for people with higher support needs. Day Programs provide community access, social inclusion, recreation and leisure, communications, and independent living skills programs for up to 25 people.
