August 2010: Blue Mountains Disability Services Supports the Young People in Residential Aged Care Service Program

Eloura Residential Services, a division of Blue Mountains Disability Services, provides accommodation support in the Blue Mountains for people with a disability. The service is developing a new and exciting program under the Young People in Residential Aged Care program (YPIRAC), designed to reduce the number of people with disability aged less than 65 who live in residential aged care. This new project offers opportunities to become involved in enhancing the lives of younger people living in aged care facilities, through establishing a new group home in the community.

 

June 2010: Eloura Wins $2mill to Develop Training and Employment HUB 

Eloura has been awarded $2 million dollars from the Australian Government to build a new centre to provide training, employment and volunteer opportunities within the Blue Mountains. The aim of this project is to provide jobs and support people in need, such as job seekers facing barriers to employment. April 2010: BuskAbility Rocks the Mountains!

On Saturday 24th April, the streets of Springwood and Leura came alive to the sound of local musicians performing for the 'BuskAbility' fundraising event. Teams of musicians entertained visitors and shoppers along Macquarie Road, Springwood and throughout Leura Mall over the Anzac Day long weekend, raising approximately $5,000 for Eloura. Thanks to all the local shops who took donations for us and to our event partner Westpac Bank - we look forward to rocking the streets again next year!

September 2009: Eloura Grounds Crew Wins National Excellence Award

The Eloura Grounds Crew has been announced as a national prize winner in the 2009 Australian Disability Enterprises Excellence Awards. The nomination for 'Supported Employees Team' recognised a team of supported employees at an Australian Disability Enterprise which has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to the Disability Enterprise's success. Congratulations Grounds Crew - you deserve it!

September 2009: Bush Bashers raise $4,500 for worthy cause

On the first weekend in September when most families were enjoying their Father's Day celebrations, a group of young bush walking fundraisers ventured into the wild under the banner 'Doing it for Disabilities'. Eloura hosted their inaugural 'Big Brave Bush Bash' sponsored walk on Saturday 5th September, which began at the Explorer's Tree, Katoomba, and culminated in a BBQ celebration at Jenolan Caves on Sunday 6th. The event attracted over 50 participants, including day walkers and weekend big brave bush bashers who completed the grueling 38km walk, camping out at Allum Creek who collectively raised over $4,500. Thanks so much to all our hardworking bush bashers - can't wait to do it all again next year!

September 2009: Local legend announced as Eloura Ambassador

Springwood based sporting legend Melinda Vernon was announced this month as the official Ambassador of Eloura. With a host of sporting achievements under her belt (including the woman's championship title at the 2009 Sun Herald City2Surf), at just 24 years old Melinda believes " together we can do more to raise awareness of the issues people with disability face in our local region". Great to have you on board Melinda!

June 2009: Rotary Partners with Eloura

Eloura was presented with a donation totaling $21,230 at Springwood Rotary Club's 2009 Changeover Dinner held on Monday 29th June. The donation included $13,700 raised by Rotary and a further $7,530 was presented by Luke Bowler of Century Financial Services (NSW) on behalf of The AMP Foundation.

'We are absolutely thrilled by the support shown by Springwood Rotary Club, The AMP Foundation and Century Financial Services (NSW)', said Eloura CEO, Graham Boshier. 'The funds raised will help us to develop a range of programs for people with disabilities in the Blue Mountains region, including the introduction of a communications room with specialised interactive software and touch screen computers'.
